“She stated that she was shown ways to work in a group and alone and how to express herself…she would have liked a longer course as she enjoyed it so much.”

Alpaca Farm

Aimed at Year 7 – 11 students working to match Staffordshire term dates
What's involved?

Starting the day at our centre, after breakfast and time to set individual targets, students make a packed lunch before heading to a local alpaca farm for the rest of the day.

Once at the farm, they take part in a Cognitive Alpaca Learning Methods (CALMs) session led by one of the farm team. CALMs harnesses the calming nature of alpacas and also helps students to understand that their hidden fears and aggression can be picked up by these sensitive creatures, which in turn helps them gain a deeper understanding of the impact their emotions can have on others.

There is some classroom time at the farm after lunch, where worksheets and photos are used to record learning. Students work towards an AIM Level 1 Award in Skills for Working in Animal Care Industries.
